About the album Whiplash
The seventh album of the British band James comes in 1997 and its title is Whiplash. James continue their collaboration with producer Brian Eno, but this time also with the contribution of producer Stephen Hague and the band's drummer, David Baynton-Power.
The album is characterized by the variety of musical styles it offers to its listener. There is indie rock, folk rock, electronic music, and even elements of trip-hop, which at that time was experiencing its best period in Britain. The first single from the album was She’s A Star, one of the most iconic songs of James throughout their long career.
In terms of chart performance in Britain and the United States, the results were almost at extremes. In their homeland, Whiplash reached No.9, while on the Billboard it barely climbed to No.158. In Britain, the album has sold 100,000 copies and has gone gold.
