About the album Seven
Ten years after forming, the British band James released their fourth studio album in February 1992. The album Seven is characterized by a more grandiose musical style compared to James's previous works, with Seven bordering on stadium rock.
In order to release Seven, the band was in and out of The Manor Studio and Olympic Studios from January to September 1991, while simultaneously having to complete a three-month tour. The first single was Sound, released in November 1991. Three more singles followed: Born Of Frustration, Ring The Bells, and Seven. The album's eleven songs were selected after having prepared about forty during this period. Half of the songs were produced by Martin Glover (Killing Joke), and the other half were produced by Steve Chase, while the group members also added their own ideas beyond just composing the songs.
Seven sold 100,000 copies in Great Britain alone, going gold, and reached No. 2 in their homeland. In reality, Seven achieved exactly the same as the previous album, Gold Mother. The 1990s had begun with the best omens for the band from Manchester.
