About the album Hey Ma
Hey Ma is the tenth studio album by the British band James, which marked the reunion of their classic lineup after seven years of absence. The album, in terms of its genre, moves in the indie rock and alternative rock space.
The songs were written by the members of the band. Recording took place in September and October 2007 in France. The album featured the classic lineup of the band: Tim Booth, Jim Glennie, Larry Gott, Saul Davies, Mark Hunter, David Baynton-Power, and Andy Diagram. The producer was Lee "Muddy" Baker in collaboration with the band itself. The songs Whiteboy and Waterfall were released as singles. The original cover, depicting a baby with a gun next to it, was banned before the album's release in April 2008 due to its content.
Hey Ma by James achieved significant commercial success, particularly in the United Kingdom, marking the band's strong return after so many years of recording absence. It was initially released only in the United Kingdom, which limited its initial presence in charts of other countries, such as the USA, where it was released later. Critics welcomed the album with enthusiasm, describing it as a "triumphant return" and one of their best works. It reached No.10 on the British charts.
