About the album Somewhere In Time
In their sixth studio album, Iron Maiden decided to use guitar synthesizers, causing a huge rift among their loyal listeners for the first time, at least to such a great extent. The band was in complete disarray, as they had just finished a tour (World Slavery Tour) with 189 concerts in less than a year. Dickinson proposed some acoustic songs, but they were all rejected. Finally, Andrian Smith and Steve Harris took action and Somewhere In Time was created (a platinum album in the USA).
The album cover was designed by Derek Riggs and contains many references to the band's songs and albums, depicting the band's mascot, Eddie, walking through a nightmarish environment taken from a bleak future, holding a weapon in his right hand and the barrel of the gun still smoking. It is one of the most complex yet interesting covers of Iron Maiden's albums.
Commercially, it did not do so well, as its sales in the USA were around 1,000,000 and in their homeland, it sold 100,000. Considering the circumstances, the rest of the European countries responded better.
