About the album We Can't Be Stopped

The 1991 album We Can't Be Stopped by the Geto Boys is considered one of the most iconic and controversial records in the history of hip-hop, marking the rise of southern rap. It is regarded as a cornerstone of hardcore and gangsta rap. It is characterized by raw, violent, and often paranoid lyrics that describe life on the streets of Houston.

The album was recorded between August 1990 and April 1991 at Jungle Style Studios and Digital Services in Houston, Texas. The production was mainly by John Bido, Crazy C, and Prince Johnny C, with the participation of the Geto Boys themselves. The cover is not staged, but a real photograph. It depicts Bushwick Bill on a hospital stretcher, after being shot in the eye during a fight with his girlfriend while under the influence of substances. The other members of the group, Scarface and Willie D, took him out of the Ben Taub hospital room to take the photo, even removing his IV (!) Bushwick Bill later expressed his regret for the cover, considering that his personal tragedy was commercially exploited.

The album went platinum in February 1992. The singles from the album were Mind Playing Tricks On Me and the absolute highlight, which reached No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is considered one of the top rap songs of all time for its honest approach to mental health and paranoia. Another single was Ain't With Being Broke.

We Can't Be Stopped reached No. 24 on the Billboard 200 and No. 5 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.
