Por La Boca Vive El Pez by Fito & Fitipaldis
About the album Por La Boca Vive El Pez
Por la Boca Vive el Pez is the fourth studio album by the Spanish rock band Fito & Fitipaldis, released on September 11, 2006, by the record label DRO (Warner Music). The title comes from a phrase Fito read in a book, reinterpreting the Spanish proverb "the fish dies by the mouth" (referring to those who talk too much) as a metaphor for the artist's experience of "living" through what they say and sing.
The album presents an eclectic mix of genres, combining rock with elements of swing, blues, soul, and pop. Its sound retains the classic rock 'n' roll feel of Fito Cabrales' early days, but with a more "mature" and introspective approach to the lyrics. The majority of the songs (music and lyrics) are by Adolfo "Fito" Cabrales. The record was recorded at Music Lan Studios in Aviñonet de Puigventós in Girona. The production is co-signed by Joe Blaney (known for collaborations with The Clash and Prince) and Carlos Raya. The album features two specific covers, which hold special significance for the Spanish rock scene: Abrazado A La Tristeza, which is a rendition of a song from the project Extrechinato y Tú, and Deltoya, a cover of the classic song by Extremoduro (from their self-titled 1992 album). Fito gave the track his own distinctive sound, transforming the original's hard rock into a more "Fitipaldi" version with brass and swing elements.
Por La Boca Vive El Pez became one of the greatest commercial successes in the history of Spanish rock music, recording impressive sales numbers. It debuted at number 1 on the Spanish charts and went platinum (over 80,000 copies) in just one week, and within a few weeks, it reached 200,000 sales. By 2010, the album had gone platinum seven times in Spain (!)
