About the album Unplugged
In the early '90s, MTV had the idea to film artists and bands live and acoustically, followed by the release of both the video of the performance and an album with the songs presented. On January 16, 1992, it was Eric Clapton's turn, who was filmed at Bray Film Studios in London.
This particular work came at an extremely difficult and distressing time in Eric Clapton's personal life, as his four-year-old son had died after falling from an open window a few months earlier. Clapton initially transformed this tragedy into the composition "Tears In Heaven," which he wrote with Wilbur Jennings, and eventually into the album "Unplugged," where he presents new and old songs of his own, as well as acoustic covers of others. The creation of this album, and the acceptance it received from the public, gave strength to its creator and served as a form of release. The album is filled with excellent acoustic rock and blues songs thanks to the musicians accompanying Clapton, as well as producer Russ Titelman.
Sales of the album are estimated at 26,000,000 worldwide, including 10,000,000 in the USA and 1,000,000 in Japan (!)
