About the album Goin' Back To New Orleans
In 1992, Dr. John with his nineteenth album will honor his birthplace, New Orleans, with Goin' Back To New Orleans. The record is a collection of traditional or non-traditional songs originating from the artist's hometown plus some new compositions of his own.
The album overflows with rhythm 'n' blues sounds, while Dr. John's unique voice manages to transport the listener decades back. The timbre of all eighteen songs belongs to another era. In the recordings, Dr. John has legendary figures of the New Orleans music scene at his side, such as the Neville Brothers, Al Hirt, Chuck Carbo, and many more. Goin' Back To New Orleans is ultimately a celebration of New Orleans, starting from the album cover.
The album was awarded the Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album.
