About the album The Chronic

Dr. Dre follows the old formula. He writes his songs, produces them, and provides the performance to others besides himself. That way, somehow, we arrive at The Chronic. The Chronic is the debut that Andre Romell Young will present shortly after his twenty-fifth birthday and will change everything in black music. The album's sound will turn everything upside down. The Chronic was a beacon album for the hip-hop community in the U.S. during its time. No.3 on the Billboard. Dr. Dre uses samplings from soul hits of the '70s and starts "spitting" his lyrics over them, after he has already pushed the beat to the limit.

The album is a revelation of where sound can go on every level. The album's production remains unparalleled. Songs like Nuthin' But A G Thang or Let Me Ride pushed this particular album to become one of the best hip hop albums of all time. Snoop Dogg's contribution to the vocals was crucial.

The album's title means "marijuana" in slang dialect. The Chronic reached No.3 on the Billboard main chart and has sold over 3,000,000 copies. The young - at the time - rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg lent his voice to many of the album's songs and thus began his career.
