About the album Hunky Dory

Shortly before the end of 1971, David Bowie's fourth album titled Hunky Dory is released. Here the creator continues to evolve and surprise. The hard rock sound of the previous album has disappeared and art pop takes its place. It is the first record produced by Ken Scott, naturally together with David Bowie.

The sound of the album is dominated by the piano – on which we hear Rick Wakeman shortly before joining the ranks of YES – and this is because this time Bowie composed the songs on the piano. On Hunky Dory, the collaboration with Mick Ronson continues, whom we hear on guitars, while Mick Woodmansey is on drums. Thus, little by little, the formation of The Spiders From Mars begins to take shape, which will dominate the British music scene for the next two to three years.

The great and timeless success of the album was the first single from Hunky Dory, which is none other than Life On Mars?. The second single was Andy Warhol, a song dedicated to the well-known visual artist. Also here is Song For Bob Dylan, while the Velvet Underground and their sound run through Queen Bitch. David Bowie, in various ways, tries to show his influences.
