About the album Willy Αnd Τhe Poor Boys
As strange as it may sound, Willy And The Poor Boys is the fourth studio album, but the third studio album released by the band Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1969, in the month of October, three months after Green River. The initial idea for the album was for the band to pretend to be a street band with the name used for its title. An idea of how this imaginary band would look is given on the cover, which is a photograph taken in Oakland, California.
Willy And The Poor Boys would also become a commercial success for the band from California. The songs are composed and produced by John Fogerty, who alone drives the CCR vehicle wherever he wants, something that causes dissatisfaction among the other three members of the band, and here lies the root of the problems that will arise a few years later.
The album reached No. 3 in the USA and managed to sell 2,000,000 copies there alone. In the United Kingdom, it reached No. 1, while in Canada and Australia it stopped its rise at No. 2.
