About the album Mental Vortex

Mental Vortex by Coroner, released on August 12, 1991, by Noise Records, is considered one of the cornerstones of technical thrash metal. It was the fourth studio album of the Swiss thrash metal band.

The album marked a shift from pure speed to more complex and atmospheric structures. The recordings took place between April and June 1991 in Berlin. The production, mixing, and sound engineering were handled by the renowned Tom Morris at Morrisound Studios in Tampa, Florida, who helped the band reach a new level of sonic clarity. The album's compositions include jazz fusion elements, avant-garde influences, and unusual rhythm changes. The bold cover of "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" by the Beatles stood out, which was accompanied by a video clip.

It is often referred to as Coroner's "magnum opus" and one of the top metal albums of 1991. Despite its artistic success and exposure from MTV, the album had limited commercial success. However, its timelessness led to multiple re-releases.
