About the album Gold Plated
The album Gold Plated by the British band Climax Blues Band represents the most commercial moment of their career. The record was released in October 1976 through Sire Records (USA) and BTM Records (UK).
The style of the record is characterized as a mix of blues rock, soft rock, and funk. Compared to their previous releases, Gold Plated had a more radio-friendly and "polished" sound, with a strong presence of keyboards and rhythmic grooves approaching the pop aesthetic of the time. The producer of the album was the renowned Mike Vernon, known for his work with blues legends. The album was mainly recorded at Chipping Norton Studios (April – May 1976), while the hit Couldn't Get It Right was recorded in August 1976 at Air Studios in London.
Couldn't Get It Right reached No. 3 on the American Billboard Hot 100 and No. 10 on the UK Singles Chart. Twenty-three years later, the song experienced a successful cover by the Fun Lovin' Criminals on the album Mimosa. The album itself climbed to No. 27 in the USA and No. 56 in the UK, making it the highest-selling record for the band.
