About the album Am Fenster

The album Am Fenster by City, released in 1978 by East Germany's (DDR) state company, Amiga, is one of the most important milestones of German rock. It was one of the few albums that achieved enormous success in West Germany as well, where it was awarded a "Gold Record".

Its sound combines progressive rock, folk elements, and classical influences, at times reminiscent of the sound of Led Zeppelin or David Bowie. The title single was released in 1977, while the completed album followed in 1978. The composition of the central song had already started in 1974. The landmark song, Am Fenster (At the Window), was released in 1977 and was a rare instance of cultural "transcendence," as it achieved enormous success on both sides of the Wall.

The album Am Fenster remains an iconic rock album, which confirms that rock music knows no boundaries and limitations.
