Risqué by Chic
About the album Risqué
Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers, through their musical vehicle, Chic, offer disco fans in 1979 one of the most remarkable examples of this particular music genre, the album Risqué. Risqué was recorded at Power Studios in the "capital" of disco music, New York. The album's production was handled by the aforementioned duo, but Bob Clearmountain was also present as the sound engineer during its recording.
Just the opening song Good Times is enough to place Risqué among the most influential albums of all time for black music, as the main riff of the song was "borrowed" the same year by the Sugarhill Gang, who created the legendary song Rapper's Delight and introduced hip-hop music to the charts.
The tremendous success and excellence of the album is due to the fact that it stands firmly on the soul and funk of the previous two decades. Risqué reached No.2 on the Billboard and sold over 1,000,000 copies in the U.S., while in the United Kingdom it reached No.29.
