Candlemass is a Swedish doom metal band formed in 1984 in Stockholm. They are recognized as one of the bands that played a crucial role in spreading and evolving the doom metal genre. The band was founded by bassist and composer Leif Edling, along with singer Johan Längquist, guitarist Mats "Mappe" Björkman, and drummer Matz Ekström. Their significant album, "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus," was released in 1986 and is considered a classic in its genre. Although there have been changes in the band's lineup over the years, Candlemass continues to create and perform live, remaining true to their distinctive sound.
