According to statements made by guitarist and permanent member of the E-Street Band, Steve Van Zandt, Working On A Dream was the third part of the trilogy they recorded with producer Brendan O'Brien. This particular album was the last one where Clarence Clemons would record.
Bruce Springsteen presented the title track at Barack Obama's campaign in Cleveland on November 2, 2008. On November 21, the song was released for "free downloading" from iTunes.
The album reached No.1 in nine countries. Its sales have exceeded 1,000,000 copies.
