Good As I Been To You by Bob Dylan
About the album Good As I Been To You
Good As I Been To You was released in 1992 and is Bob Dylan's twenty-eighth studio album. It marked a significant return to his roots, as it was his first fully acoustic and solo album since Another Side of Bob Dylan in 1964.
The album dives into traditional folk and blues paths. The style is simple and "stripped-down," with Dylan accompanying his hoarse, mature voice only with acoustic guitar and harmonica. His performance is characterized by authenticity and a sense of the "old world," reminiscent of wandering troubadours from past decades. All tracks are traditional songs or covers of older folk and blues hits. It does not include any original composition by Dylan. The production is credited to Debbie Gold, a close collaborator of Dylan, who oversaw the recordings and helped him maintain the spontaneous energy of the takes. The album cover, photographed by Jimmy Wachtel, exudes a deliberate sense of simplicity and low budget, reminiscent of old blues artist records.
Although initially met with skepticism by the audience expecting new material, Good As I Been To You helped restore his critical reputation. In the U.S., it reached No.51, while in the United Kingdom it achieved greater success, reaching No.18.
