Bo Diddley by Bo Diddley
About the album Bo Diddley
The eponymous album by Bo Diddley released in 1958 by Chess Records marks his first recording work and is considered one of the most influential records in the history of rock and roll.
Even though the album was released in 1958, it does not consist of material written in a single period. It is essentially a collection of singles that were recorded gradually between 1955 and 1958. Thus, from 1955, the year of Diddley's first major successes, we have songs like Bo Diddley and I'm A Man, which were recorded in Chicago on March 2, 1955. From the years 1956-57, we find tracks like the iconic Who Do You Love? (1956) and Hey! Bo Diddley (1957), while from 1958, songs like Hush Your Mouth and Dearest Darling were included in the album. All the songs are compositions by Bo Diddley himself, who introduced the famous "Bo Diddley beat" (a rhythm of African origin), which shortly after influenced British bands such as the Rolling Stones and The Who.
Rolling Stone magazine has ranked it among the 500 greatest albums of all time.
