About the album Vol. 4
Black Sabbath move to Los Angeles to record their fourth studio album, and there the band literally dives into cocaine. Testimonials say that drugs arrived at the studio inside speakers and amplifiers. From May to June 1972, the recording period was out of control. The most characteristic song of these eventful recordings is Snowblind. The inner sleeve notably notes Thanks to "the great COKE-cola".
The initial intention was to name the album Snowblind, but the record company feared it would be too provocative, so the record company people took the initiative to name it Vol.4 and even changed the cover and put a retouched photo of Ozzy. All of this happened while the band members were on vacation and, of course, without their knowledge.
Vol.4 reached No.5 in Britain and No.13 in the U.S. It has sold over 1,000,000 copies there.
