About the album Headless Cross

Headless Cross, the fourteenth studio album by Black Sabbath, will be the one with which the band from Birmingham will mark two decades of presence in the magical world of rock music. After twenty years, much will have changed within the ranks of Black Sabbath, both in sound and in composition.

Headless Cross was recorded between August and November of 1988, and the only member of the original lineup remaining is Tony Iommi. On vocals, we hear Tony Martin for whom this is the second Black Sabbath album in which he participates, while the addition of Cozy Powell on drums and in the production of Headless Cross is significant. In fact, another contribution from Powell was that he convinced Iommi to keep Tony Martin on vocals. In the song When Death Calls, the guitar solo is by Brian May of Queen (!)

The album did not have the commercial impact that Iommi and his crew might have expected. In the United Kingdom, it reached No. 31 and in the United States of America, a disappointing No. 115.
