About the album Mutations
In November 1998, Beck released his sixth album titled Mutations. The album balances from song to song between folk rock, psychedelia, and country. The producer of the album is the Englishman Nigel Godrich, who had recently produced Radiohead's OK Computer, and the attentive listener will recognize the similarity in some points between the two albums.
The creator of Mutations, Beck, had reached an agreement with his company Geffen Records to allow him to release the album through the independent and small label Bong Load Records. However, when the people at Geffen listened to the album's material, they proceeded to release Mutations through their company. This situation led the two parties to court. Eventually, the album was released by Bong Load Records, and Beck committed to Geffen for his future work.
Mutations has now sold over 1,000,000 copies worldwide. At the time of its release, it reached No. 13 on the Billboard.
