About the album Mellow Gold

Beck David Hansen or simply Beck with his Mellow Gold from 1994 pleasantly reaches the third studio album of his career. Although the album is placed in the broader realm of alternative rock, from the very first listen one can understand that it is an album that does not have a clear musical direction as it recognizes in the songs of the record elements of psychedelia, country, experimental rock, hip hop, and blues music. The album was originally intended to be titled Cold Ass Fashion, as it was the title of a song Beck had written at some point in the past. It was finally named Mellow Gold, which is the name of a variety of marijuana found in California.

The album became a success and its sales in the U.S. exceeded 1,200,000 copies. Most of the reviews it received at the time of its release were rave, although some music magazines revised over the years and lowered their ratings.

In any case, Mellow Gold and certainly its much-listened-to first single titled Loser and the broadcasting of its video clip by MTV played their role in making Beck known to a very large audience on a global level.
