Under The Sign Of The Black Mark by Bathory
About the album Under The Sign Of The Black Mark
The Swedish group Bathory recorded Under The Sign Of The Black Mark in September 1986, an extremely decisive and influential album for the world of heavy metal, an album that in its 36 minutes laid the first stones for what would be called black metal. The album's release took place in May 1987.
All the compositions on the album were by Thomas Börje Forsberg, also known as Quorthon. Quorthon's purpose was to create a chilling and extreme sound environment, like never before seen. The song lyrics find their theme in matters related to Satan and hell. Additionally, Quorthon plays most of the musical instruments and sings himself.
Under The Sign Of The Black Mark was an album that defined the Scandinavian metal scene. It arrived and changed many things. It's no coincidence that it is occasionally found on the lists of the most influential albums in the long history of metal music.
