About the album Octoberon
The British band Barclay James Harvest, who began their journey in 1966, released their seventh studio album titled Octoberon in 1976. Octoberon is a typical progressive rock album, which also has extensions towards symphonic rock, a common feature for bands that started their discography in the late '60s.
The title Octoberon was a pun on the name Oberon, a character in Shakespeare's play "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Moreover, the official release date of the album was chosen to be the first of October 1976. The album was produced by the band members themselves.
Octoberon did not receive good reviews and is considered among the band's mediocre albums. The song that stood out and was particularly loved by the general public was Rock 'n' Roll Star. The negative reviews did not prevent 60,000 Britons from buying the album and pushing it into the Top-40 in their country, reaching No. 19. Across the Atlantic Ocean, Octoberon had no luck, as is evident from its placement at No. 179 on the Billboard chart.
