666 by Aphrodite's Child
About the album 666
The Greek band Aphrodite's Child moved to Paris and recorded their third album, 666, between 1970 and 1971. Despite the album being ready for release, the record company Vertigo Records brought up various excuses not to proceed with its release as it was a concept album based on the Apocalypse of John. Due to this disagreement, 666 was eventually released in June 1972.
The album's composers were Vangelis Papathanassiou, who wrote the music, Kostas Ferris, who wrote the lyrics, and Demis Roussos, who performed the lyrics. Beyond the disagreement between the band and their label, there was another much more significant one. The other members of Aphrodite's Child disagreed with the musical style of the album as most preferred to continue playing psychedelic rock music. Among those who participated were Irene Papas and the visual artist Yiannis Tsarouchis.
It is estimated and appraised that the creation and release of 666 cost 700,000 euros (in today's prices).
