About the album Fistful Of Metal
Classmates Danny Lilker and Ian Scott formed Anthrax in New York in 1981, a band whose musical orientation is speed metal since the term thrash metal does not yet exist. Their first album was recorded at the end of 1983 and released in January 1984 and is called Fistful Of Metal, a title depicted on its cover.
The album is full of songs with frantic speed, songs like Metal Thrashing Mad or Soldiers Of Metal help the band to start making their mark slowly in the metal community of New York. Another noteworthy aspect of the album is the cover of Alice Cooper's song, I'm Eighteen, which is the most tranquil moment of the record. Fistful Of Metal is the only Anthrax album on which Neil Turbin sings, who left the band in August 1984.
Fistful Of Metal with its raw sound was initially ignored by the vast majority of rock music listeners as it was by no means a mainstream record. However, the evolution of both the band and the music industry in the following years helped the album to gain a place - at least - in the metal community.
