About the album Anna Calvi

The self-titled debut of the British artist Anna Calvi, released in January 2011 by Domino Records, is considered one of the most influential first musical releases of the decade.

The album was recorded in the fall of 2010 at Black Box studio in France and in London. The production was co-signed by Calvi with Rob Ellis, known for his long collaboration with PJ Harvey. Vintage analog equipment was used to create a "velvet Wall of Sound". The album's style is a combination of art rock, indie rock, and baroque pop, with strong elements of flamenco and blues. The legendary Brian Eno, who had described her as "the best thing since Patti Smith," participated in the vocals of the songs Desire and Suzanne & I. Also, Dave Okumu (from The Invisible) participated in the vocals of No More Words.

The main singles that stood out were Blackout, Desire, and Suzanne & I. Anna Calvi received rave reviews, with NME calling it the first great album of 2011. It reached No40 on the UK charts and No17 in France.
