Pretties For You by Alice Cooper
About the album Pretties For You
Pretties For You is the debut album of the band Alice Cooper, which was released on June 25, 1969, by Frank Zappa's label Straight Records. The album is far from Alice Cooper's later "shock rock" style. Its style is intensely psychedelic (psychedelic rock), with elements of acid rock and experimental rock. It includes unusual structures, abrupt tempo changes, and influences from the early Pink Floyd and Frank Zappa.
The album was recorded in 1968. The production is mainly attributed to Ian Underwood and Herb Cohen, with the supervision of Frank Zappa. It is said that Zappa recorded the band during rehearsal, believing that this raw execution better captured their essence. The cover of Pretties For You is based on a painting by Edward Beardsley (often referred to as "Strawberry Cake"). It depicts an elderly man looking at a girl lifting her skirt to reveal her underwear against a background reminiscent of a funeral. Due to the content, some early editions were released with a yellow sticker covering the sensitive area.
The price of an authentic first edition on vinyl (especially the "uncensored" edition without the sticker) can range from $50 to over $200 depending on condition.
