About the album Welcome To Hell
The discography of the British band Venom begins with the success of their single, In League With Satan, which caught the interest of the independent record label Neat Records. Venom re-recorded all the songs they had as demos and their debut album was ready with the title Welcome To Hell. Both the title and the album cover were meant to spark comments about their name, and they succeeded.
Welcome To Hell and its eleven songs represent the most extreme expression of NWOBHM in the early '80s. The album was recorded in August 1981 at the Impulse Studios in Newcastle, the hometown of the band members. Venom sound like they're playing as fast and wild as if there's no tomorrow.
At the time of its release, the album was mocked by music critics, but today it is considered one of the albums whose musical style led to the development of speed metal and the creation of black metal.
