About the album Infernal Love
Infernal Love is the third full studio album by the Irish band Therapy?, which was released on June 12, 1995. It was the last album with the original trio, as drummer Fyfe Ewing left in January 1996, shortly after the album's tour. Following the huge success of its predecessor, Troublegum (1994), this album marked a significant shift in the band's sound. It was produced by Al Clay. The songs are interconnected with audio clips (links) from Irish DJ David Holmes.
While the previous album was closer to punk-metal, Infernal Love adopted a darker, atmospheric, and "cinematic" sound. It includes elements of alternative rock and metal, while for the first time, string instruments such as Martin McCarrick’s cello were heavily used. There were three main singles released from Infernal Love, Story, Loose, and Diane, which became the album's biggest hit and was a cover of Hüsker Dü’s song Diane, a rendition based solely on vocals and cello.
Despite the change in its musical style, Therapy?'s album reached No. 9 in the United Kingdom and went gold there, selling 60,000 copies, while its performance in Belgium was also notable, with album sales reaching 25,000.
