About the album White Blood Cells
White Blood Cells, released on July 3, 2001, was the turning point for the White Stripes, transforming them from an underground band from Detroit into a global phenomenon of the garage rock revival. Although their previous two albums heavily relied on blues, in White Blood Cells Jack White consciously chose to distance himself from the blues stereotypes (without guitar solos or slide guitar), adopting a more direct and primitive garage sound.
The album was recorded in less than a week in Memphis. Jack White acted as the producer, aiming for a deliberately rushed and "tense" sound to capture the raw energy of the duo. The success was fueled by the iconic single Fell In Love With A Girl (with the well-known Lego music video) and Hotel Yorba and Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground.
It was the first White Stripes album to sell over 1,000,000 copies, thus becoming platinum in the U.S. and the United Kingdom. It reached No. 61 on the Billboard 200.
