About the album Chill Out

The British duo KLF (Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty) released their debut album titled Chill Out in February 1990, opening new musical paths by combining electronic music with ambient sound in a way that had never been heard before. The main intention of KLF was to create a nighttime musical journey through the southern states of America, from Texas to Louisiana (!). The impressive thing was that no member of KLF had ever been to any of these areas; all the compositions were written simply by looking at a map of the USA (!).

According to statements from the KLF members, it took two days to complete the recording of Chill Out. In reality, Chill Out is a single continuous musical piece, which has many musical variations. To achieve the musical result they desired, KLF "borrowed" musical themes from Van Halen, Pink Floyd, to 808 State and Elvis Presley. The album cover attempts to mimic the cover of Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother from 1970.

Chill Out had no success on any charts, but its musical experimentation is undoubtedly at a peak.
