About the album Face To Face

The English band the Kinks on their fourth album, Face To Face, change their musical style and move towards baroque pop and art pop. Behind all the compositions was Ray Davies, except for the song Party Line, where he collaborates with his brother Dave Davies. The record's production was done by Shel Talmy.

The recordings for the album started in October 1965 and lasted until June 1966. At the beginning of the recordings, Ray Davies had to overcome a nervous breakdown, which stemmed from the pressure he felt to continue writing hits for his band. The great success of Face To Face was the single Sunny Afternoon, which reached No. 1 in Great Britain and No. 14 in the United States.

Initially, the album received a lukewarm reception from the public and critics. Today it is considered one of the best and most interesting albums offered by the English pop scene in the 1960s.
