About the album Takin' It To The Streets
The Doobie Brothers with their sixth studio album and its success prove that their journey is anything but coincidental. Takin' It To The Streets enters the Billboard Top-10, becoming the fourth consecutive album by the band from San Jose, California to achieve such success.
The album is full of pop & rock songs that are enjoyable to listen to, songs that are indeed written for American radio, but on the other hand, one cannot dispute the quality and production of the compositions. Takin' It To The Streets came at a difficult time for the group, as the main singer and songwriter Tom Johnston was suffering from stomach issues and was exhausted from many performances. Part of his duties was taken over by former Steely Dan collaborator Michael McDonald, who became a member of the Doobie Brothers until the early next decade. The album was produced once again by Ted Templeman.
With over 1,000,000 sales in the United States alone, the album ranks among the most commercially successful studio albums of the Doobie Brothers.
