About the album 1965

The album 1965 by the American band Afghan Whigs was their sixth studio record in their career. 1965 is primarily a work by singer Greg Dulli, who composes most of the songs on his own and is also involved in the album's production, something Dulli had been accustomed to doing since the band's third album. The album was released in 1998 and was recorded at Kingsway Studio in New Orleans. 1965 was recorded right after Dulli's treatment for the depressive disorder he had experienced.

The musical style of the album is between alternative rock, but some passages from soul and rhythm 'n' blues cannot be ignored. The title, as well as the album cover, are related to the American space program Gemini IV. The program took place in June 1965, and the photo is of astronaut Ed White on the first "spacewalk" conducted by an American astronaut. Ed White lost his life on January 27, 1967, in the accident that occurred during the Apollo I program.

The two singles from the album were Somethin' Hot and 66. The album reached No. 175 on the Billboard chart and was the last recording effort by the Afghan Whigs before their first disbandment in 2001.
