Down To Earth by Stevie Wonder
About the album Down To Earth
Stevie Wonder had just turned sixteen when he recorded the sixth album of his career, Down To Earth, a pop album with many soul and R&B elements. Little Stevie had begun to show that he was starting to take his career as a singer more seriously, as well as that of a composer, since he also participated in the composition of four of the twelve songs on the album.
The songs are divided as half are covers of earlier hits by other artists and the other half are songs written for Stevie Wonder. The big hit of the album was A Place In The Sun. It is one of Stevie Wonder's most stunning performances of the 1960s. On the other hand, notable performances include his renditions of My World Is Empty Without You by the Supremes and Sixteen Tons by Merle Travis from 1946.
Down To Earth reached No. 92 on the Billboard. It may not be among Motown's commercially successful records, but it was a very good step in the artist's journey for what would come about five years later.
