About the album True
Spandau Ballet from London released True in early 1983, making a noticeable shift in their sound compared to their previous two albums. In their third album, they adopt a clear soul sound and aesthetic, leaving behind the pop and dance pursuits they had in the early '80s.
Behind this change in their career was Gary Kemp, the band's guitarist and main composer. The "polished" production of True involved the producer duo Jolley & Swain as well as the band itself.
Spandau Ballet achieved great success in their homeland, reaching No. 1, and also across the world. In Britain, the album had achieved 300,000 sales in just the first quarter of its release. Additionally, True reached No. 19 in the United States, No. 1 in the Netherlands and New Zealand, and No. 4 in Australia.
