About the album Parade

After the great success of the album True, Gary Kemp composes eight new songs that would become the material for Spandau Ballet's fourth album in 1984. The album is titled Parade and its sound moves between pop and, of course, blue-eyed soul, which as a musical trend is experiencing one of its best periods in the mid-1980s.

The idea to promote the new album with a big tour gave Kemp the notion to envision the whole undertaking as a “parade” around the world, where Spandau Ballet would present their work. This is how the title and the album cover came about. The excellent production of the album was done by the duo Jolley & Swain.

Parade reached No. 2 in the United Kingdom in its first week of release, and the singles Only When You Leave and I’ll Fly For You stood out and were particularly loved by the band's fans. In the U.S., things didn't go as well, as Parade only reached No. 50 on the Billboard. However, the Netherlands particularly honored the album, and sales of 100,000 copies there made it platinum.
