About the album King Animal
Neither one, nor two, nor ten years were needed for the return of Soundgarden to discography and to an album with new material. It took sixteen years for King Animal to be presented in 2012. It all started from a statement by Chris Cornell in 2010 that Soundgarden were reuniting, which indeed happened.
And while the initial intention was only to try to play their old material, Cornell suggested writing a new song, just to see if they still could. The first song they wrote was Black Rain, which was included in the 2010 collection titled Telephantasm. Then one thing led to another and by November 2012, in collaboration with producer Adam Kasper, whom they had known since the 1990s, King Animal was ready, a purebred alternative metal/rock album.
King Animal was the last album recorded by the original lineup of Soundgarden and there will be no other after the tragic end of Chris Cornell in 2017. In its first week of release in the U.S., the album sold 83,000 copies and went straight to No. 5 on the Billboard chart.
