About the album Canción Animal

The album Canción Animal granted the Argentinians Soda Stereo a place among the most important representatives of the Latin American, Spanish-speaking pop/rock expression. Canción Animal was released in 1990 and truly made waves in the musical reality of Latin American countries with its alternative rock sound, which was equivalent to and perhaps more advanced than the sound prevailing in bands from the United States.

Behind all the compositions of Canción Animal was primarily the legendary – now – figure of Argentine and Spanish-speaking rock, Gustavo Cerati (1959 – 2014). The album's massive success was De Música Ligera, which is now an anthem of rock for Latin America. Canción Animal was a major earthquake in the world of rock for Spanish-speaking countries.

The album's success was so great that it led to a tour in many Latin American countries, culminating in a concert in Buenos Aires, the likes of which had never been seen before. Some claim that 400,000 people (!) gathered to listen to Soda Stereo at the final concert of the “Gira Animal.”
