Slipknot by Slipknot
About the album Slipknot
The self-titled album of Slipknot, released on June 29, 1999, by Roadrunner Records, is considered one of the most influential albums in the history of heavy music, marking the band's official entry into the mainstream. It is regarded as a cornerstone of nu metal, offering a more aggressive and dark sound compared to other bands of the time. It established the use of extended percussion and turntables, creating a chaotic yet structured atmosphere.
The recording of the album took place at Indigo Ranch Studios in Malibu, California. The sessions began on September 29, 1998, and were completed in February 1999. Ross Robinson, known as the "godfather of nu metal," oversaw the production, focusing on capturing the raw energy of their live performances. The recording process was intense and often chaotic, with Robinson pushing the members to their limits (e.g., throwing objects at drummer Joey Jordison during recording).
The album reached No. 51 on the Billboard 200 and No. 37 on the UK charts. In Finland, it reached No. 30. Slipknot is the band's most commercially successful album. It has been certified 3 times platinum in the USA.
