About the album Roxy Music
The self-titled debut album by Roxy Music, released on June 16, 1972, is considered one of the most groundbreaking works in the history of rock, laying the foundations for art rock and glam rock. Its recording took place between March 14 and 29, 1972. It was released on the exact same day as David Bowie's The Rise and Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars, marking the official birth of the glam era.
It is regarded as the first postmodern masterpiece of rock. It significantly influenced genres such as new wave, punk, and electronic pop, proposing an aesthetic where image and style are as important as the music. The album presented a radical mix of futuristic synths (Brian Eno), avant-garde elements, and classic pop structures. Tracks like "Re-Make/Re-Model" and "Ladytron" defined the band's sound. All songs were compositions by Bryan Ferry. Roxy Music reached No.10 on the UK charts.
The cover of Roxy Music features model Kari-Ann Muller (former "Bond girl"), who was paid just 20 pounds for the photoshoot. She later married Chris Jagger, brother of Mick Jagger. The style evokes pin-up images of the '40s and '50s, combining the nostalgia of old Hollywood with a postmodern "high-fashion" approach. It was unusual for a new band to use a professional model and to credit contributors for makeup and hair (Antony Price), resembling a fashion magazine rather than a traditional rock album.
