About the album Theogonia

The album Theogonia by Rotting Christ is considered one of the most pivotal albums in the band's history, as it marked their return to their roots and the establishment of their modern, ritualistic sound. It was released on January 22, 2007, in Europe and on February 6, 2007, in the US. It was their first release through the French label Season of Mist, after the expiration of their contract with Century Media.

The compositions of the album are a mix of melodic black metal with strong elements of Greek traditional (folk) music, epic choirs, ritualistic atmosphere, and oriental melodies. The album largely abandoned the gothic style of previous years. The artwork of the album was curated by Spiros Antoniou (Seth Siro Anton) of Septicflesh, providing a dark and imposing aesthetic that matches the theme of ancient cosmogony.

The promotion included extensive tours in Europe, Brazil, and Russia. A limited edition of the album included a DVD with footage from these tours and the "making of" the album.
