About the album Rickie Lee Jones
At the age of 25, Rickie Lee Jones records her first album, titled after the name of the emerging singer and songwriter from Chicago. The Rickie Lee Jones album is a 1979 release and contains nine compositions of her own and two co-written with Alfred Johnson.
This particular album is filled with R&B and jazz compositions, always with an orientation towards soft rock music. This album began its existence as soon as the people at Warner Bros agreed to listen live to three of the songs she had ready, while they also listened to a demo she left for them. Among the many remarkable musicians who contributed to the creation of the album are Dr. John and Randy Newman on keyboards, Jeff Porcaro on drums, Michael McDonald the singer of the Doobie Brothers, and jazz bassist Red Callender. The album's producers were two, Lenny Waronker and Russ Titelman.
The album sold 1,000,000 copies in the U.S. and went platinum, while its sales in Australia reached 140,000 copies. Additionally, the Rickie Lee Jones album earned its creator the Grammy award for Best New Artist the following year (!)
