About the album 1999

With the album 1999, Prince managed to turn everyone's attention to him. The album 1999, which was released on October 27, 1982, is considered the pivotal moment that transformed him from an R&B artist to a global superstar. The album established the so-called Minneapolis Sound, a combination of funk, pop, and R&B with heavy use of synthesizers and drum machines. It was his fifth studio album and was initially released as a double LP, including 11 tracks.

It includes the iconic songs 1999, Little Red Corvette, and Delirious. 1999 is the first album where the name of his band, The Revolution, appears written backwards on the cover (as "dna eht noituloveR"). Apart from this first, the specific album was the first to enter the Top 10 of the Billboard 200, reaching No. 9, while with the music video for Little Red Corvette, Prince became one of the first black artists to receive constant airplay on MTV.

The album 1999 has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame (2008) and is consistently included in lists of the best albums of all time. Sales of 1999 have exceeded 7,000,000 copies worldwide.
