About the album Meds
After a three-year discographic absence, Placebo return with the fifth studio album of their career in 2006. Its title is Meds. Meds is the last album to feature drummer Steve Hewitt, who left immediately after the album's completion due to personal and musical differences with the other two.
The band has the desire to move towards an electronic sound. The album's producer, Frenchman Dimitri Tikovoï, insists on returning to the alternative rock sound that characterized them in their first three albums. At that point, Placebo is not exactly sure what they want to do and are guided by the producer's suggestions. Meds features two collaborations. Alison Mosshart provides vocals on the song Meds, and Michael Stipe of R.E.M. appears on Broken Promise.
Meds was described by its creators as dark and certainly not an album that makes you happy when you listen to it. This is due to the lyrics which talk about dependencies, disappointments, and departures. One only has to listen to the song that closes the album, Song To Say Goodbye. Meds reached No.7 in the UK.
