About the album Wish You Were Here

In the mid-'70s, Pink Floyd had taken a different path, a path that their ninth album, Wish You Were Here, comes to continue. However, this path had exhausted the members of the band. The performances for The Dark Side Of The Moon had ended and had left them all drained to the point where they couldn't gather the strength to write anything new for a long time. They felt burnt out within the music industry. The album cover—which is another work by Hipgnosis—comes to show this "burnout."

Musically, the album moves in the progressive rock genre, essentially moving between perfection and masterpiece, while the two main themes that occupy the lyrics of the songs are the critique of the music industry and the lack of companionship that (according to Roger Waters) has now dominated the relationships between the group's members.

The album is one of the top of the '70s (and not only), while its sales worldwide have exceeded 20,000,000 copies.
