About the album The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn

Two years after the formation of the Pink Floyd group in London and after gaining a loyal audience from their performances, the band released their debut on August 4, 1967, titled "The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn," an extremely psychedelic record.

The main protagonist of the album is Syd Barrett, who composes the majority of the songs. Along with him, naturally, but having a smaller role in the compositions of the album were Roger Waters, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright. The album was recorded at Abbey Road Studios at the exact same time that the Beatles were in the neighboring rooms preparing "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (!) EMI not knowing exactly what kind of band Pink Floyd was, gave them the freedom to record whatever they wanted, and after Syd Barrett's rampant use of LSD, we arrived at the sound result called "The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn." The people at EMI barely managed to release a single, which was "Flaming," and it failed miserably on the charts both in England and in the U.S.A.

"The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn" is the best work sample left by Syd Barrett before he followed the paths he did. At the time of its release, it reached No. 22 in Britain, while the highest position it reached on a chart was No. 10 in Norway.
