About the album Atom Heart Mother
The 1970s began discographically for Pink Floyd with their fifth studio album, which is Atom Heart Mother, released in October 1970. The album cover was a work by the design team Hipgnosis and is the first to not display the band's name. The production includes Pink Floyd themselves, while the wider production team includes Alan Parsons as the sound engineer.
The album consists of a suite lasting 24 minutes, bearing the title of the album, which is divided into six parts and occupies the entire first side of the record. On the second side of the vinyl, there are five more compositions, with notable ones being If and Summer '68. Atom Heart Mother has been almost disowned by its own creators, namely David Gilmour and Roger Waters.
Atom Heart Mother was the first Pink Floyd album to reach No.1 in their home country, while in the USA it reached No.55. The total worldwide sales of the album are close to 1,300,000 copies.
